In a recent story, Triathlete Magazine dives into what makes the Wildflower Experience truly legendary: a multi-day festival with multiple triathlons and other running events that feels more like a weekend party than a race. In her article Sarah Wassner Flynn shares the story of the re-emergence of the Wildflower Experience with eight different race options, plus yoga sessions, live music, food trucks, and more.

Wildflower Experience has always been about more than just a few races. We believe that at its heart, Wildflower has always been about immersing yourself in the community and enjoying the competition and celebration. Wildflower has always been an athletic challenge with a heavy dose of community.

The communal experience of Wildflower is what we believe has made it more than just a race over the years. Where most other races only bring athletes together in the transitions area, packet pickup, the start line, and maybe the hotel lobby, Wildflower has always taken it further. Encouraging athletes and their families to stay at the campground and fully take in the race festival, live music, and maybe even include the whole family in the 5k run through the campground. Sitting around a campfire each night sharing the magic of Jiffy Pop and s’mores over a campfire while sharing stories about those crazy volunteers and that time you tried to keep up with those college tri teams (the night before the race).

Sarah with Triathlete Magazine nails it: the Wildflower Experience is less about racing and more about coming together—camping under the stars, sharing stories, mixing endurance with entertainment. Colleen resurrected a legendary event that keeps the party in triathlon alive, offering athletes of every level a little slice of Wildflower magic.
