Challenged Athletes Foundation

In 1994, an effort to help one man launched a global change in the way athletes with physical challenges are perceived and perceive themselves. Jim MacLaren was an exceptional athlete, first as an amputee and then as a quadriplegic. After losing his leg in a motorcycle accident, Jim became a pioneer, achieving feats that others never thought possible for amputees. Jim may no longer be with us, but his legacy lives on through Team CAF.

It is the mission of the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) to provide opportunities and support to people with physical challenges, so they can pursue active lifestyles through physical fitness and competitive athletics. The Challenged Athletes Foundation believes that involvement in sports at any level increases self-esteem, encourages independence and enhances quality of life.

Representing 3 Decades of Incredible Achievements & Lifesaving Results
In 1988, Team In Training started a revolution that changed endurance sports forever. We are now the largest charity endurance training program in the world – powered by 650,000 athletes who have raised over $1 billion.

Our program prepares athletes for premier endurance challenges – creating lifelong memories with incredible experiences that unite teammates in pursuit of curing cancer.

Team In Training raises funds in support of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).
The mission of LLS is: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

LLS exists to find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients. We are the voice for all blood cancer patients and we work to ensure access to treatments for all blood cancer patients.

City Year
Visit

City Year is contributing to a clearer and bolder vision of what public schools can and should be for all children: places of learning, exploration and risk-taking, where every student feels safe and connected to his or her school community; where data is used continuously to help promote student growth and achievement; and where all students have access to positive, caring relationships and personalized learning environments that encourage them to persevere through challenges, build on their strengths and thrive.

Fueled by national service, City Year partners with public schools in 28 urban, high-need communities across the U.S. and through international affiliates in the U.K. and Johannesburg, South Africa. Diverse teams of City Year AmeriCorps members provide research-based student, classroom and school-wide supports to help students stay in school and on track to graduate from high school, ready for college and career success. This year, City Year’s 3,000 young leaders are serving more than 223,000 students in over 325 schools nationwide.

A 2015 study shows that schools that partner with City Year were up to 2-3 times more likely to improve math and English assessments. A proud member of the AmeriCorps national service network, City Year is supported by the Corporation for National and Community Service, local school districts, and private philanthropy from corporations, foundations and individuals.

Medals4Mettle
Visit

At Medals4Mettle we attach our branded ribbons (lanyards) to donated finishers’ medals (marathons, triathlons, half marathons, and triathlons) and award them to children and adults for the mettle and courage they demonstrate battling cancer, chronic illness, trauma and other life challenges. These medals are awarded to pay-it-forward to those who must run a much more difficult race than the medal donors’ races; a race they did not choose to run: a race where the finish line might not be known. Medals4Mettle’s mission is to provide an opportunity to unite endurance athletes with all compassionate human beings to create a new INTERNATIONAL  NETWORK  OF COMPASSION: KINDNESS WITHOUT BORDERS.

The simple anonymous gift of a donated medal conveys that message as proven by our worldwide growth and scientific research of our mission. You don’t have to be a runner – most of us aren’t. Come and see the thousands of smiles and messages that will give you hope…hope that we can continue to establish the gifting of an earned finishers’ medal as an international symbol of compassion and goodwill.
